Fort Worth, Texas, Debates Home-Business Rules
By Mike Lee, Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Texas Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News
Apr. 7--FORT WORTH, Texas - More than 50 people, from students to music teachers to direct marketers, turned out Tuesday night to oppose a plan to place tighter regulations on home-based businesses.
Dozens of people stood in the rear of the City Council chamber and applauded during the two-hour public hearing, many of them sporting 4-inch stickers that read "Let Freedom Work. Save my home business."
They questioned the need for the regulations, the restrictions on parking and traffic, and the city's ability to enforce them.
"Is there a general outcry? Is there a major problem somewhere?" asked William Ford, who works from his south Fort Worth home in investing and sales. The rules likely wouldn't affect Ford, but he said he opposed the idea on principal.
"I'm with Thomas Jefferson. He said what we need in this country is wise and frugal government," Ford said.
