This business i have been running for quite sometime, and yes it does get messy if you don't use the correct method to refill cartridges.
I still use manual hand refilling method, i only refill canon and lexmark cartridges they are easy to refill, only takes about 5-7 minutes to refill and test, however this doesn't mean that you cannot refill other makes all you need is practice like any other business.
In uk only this business is growing rapidly, lot of franchise companies coming in, however there is still lot of room for individuals like myself and others to make money from this business, also in usa lot of individuals operate this business from there home.
Anyone can start this business on a shoestring budget, and the profit margins are amazing.
To give you an example average canon/lexmark cartridge as ink content value of just $0.40, and charge your clients between $7-10/cartridge, i am not taking about inks you buy from high street stores they are waste of time, not bad for 7 minutes of work...
Not only that you can refill cartridges but what about millions of empties out there, people have started to resell these for profit, average canon/lexmark empty is worth $2.5 - 5, few people to whom i have revealed this opportunity are making extra cash by simply reselling empties, just do a search on 'ebay'.

That sounds like a great niche to be in. I know that the price of new ink from the store is crazy expensive, so I see how you could have a decent markup and still offer a discount price to buyers. Best of luck with it...  |

Yes this little business is like a goldmine...
Almost everyone has inkjet printers at home, specially with kids, my kids drain inks out like mad, every 3-4 days i have to refill there cartridges.
Imagine the cost of $20-$30 per cartridge!
