Well, I have to admit trying to work a MLM took me to bankrupcy court. I spent way too much money on product (which I still have sitting in my kitchen) and flyers, and cds, and business cards, and leads. All of this added to a lot of money for others and none for me. So yes, I did quit... so I guess I am a quitter. Embarassed

But, I have jumped into the frey again and this time I hope it goes better. I am not getting into something that takes big monthly payments... and I am starting slow.

I think MLM's can be done, but you have to work very hard at it, and be very lucky too.

Being labelled as a quitter...  Reply with quote

is frequently used as a tactic by uplines to keep unprofitable downline members from dropping out, or at least putting the blame on you for failing.

In many cases, it is the MLM or upline that is a fault.

Not everyone is capable of being an MLM success. If some recruiters would do a better job of screening those they recruit, there would be many less who join the ranks of the 97% who get out before making any profit in MLM.

Don't fall for the standard drill, "If you'd just buy and listen to the tapes, attend the seminars & retreats, buy leads, mailing lists, etc, you could be in the Top 3%. Guess what, only 3% can be in the top 3%. There's no other mathematic formula for getting more than 3% into the Top 3%.

If you haven't taken the plunge yet, please take the time to do "The Due DIligence" thing and check out not only the history and products of the MLM, but also the career history of the promoter(s).

from my own experience most MLM programs take a great deal of time and effort for very little reward!

Great discussion here, really I agree that nm or MLM is not for everyone. I would also say that as mention many distributors sould screen there prospects before just signing them up. No matter who they are or where you get the lead from they should be pre-screened now you still may have someone who passed and felt that they were ready to get started in business. But at least they know before hand what they are getting into. I would also suggest anyone looking to give this industry a try or anyone who is involved currently that you check out Dani Johnson's stie for the free training provide this is not just for business the training offered will also help you live better lives all around. .

Also a word about the comment about those who have low self esteem or something to that point, these people can also succeed in MLM as well all they need is to capatilize on getting trained correctly with the right tools and skills. That is a personal development issue IMO and network marketing will help you overcome that and more.

Also many need to educate themselves on what this industry is truly about, it not about the products you are selling nor is it about you. Until people realize this they will not be apart of the 3% who are successful in this industry.

So check out your MLM first...  Reply with quote

Good Post, Dennis,
So there are probably hundreds of people losing money to MLM programmes before they break even. Probably very true... But there are viable and legitimate and really GOOD MLM companies here on the net - most of whom have been established for quite a number of years... Its just a matter of doing some research on the company before diving in with your donations...
I'm happy enough with the people I'm dealing with.
Nick.

Not hundreds Nickbj  Reply with quote

Hundreds of thousands or more likely 1 million plus who never earned a penny on the money they put into their distributorship along with any they spent promoting it, buying leads, monthly product purchases, etc.

If 90% quit while in the hole, you only have to know the total number of attempts in the past year or decade to see how many have lost money in MLMs.

I'm not saying it doesn't work - that'll be pure ignorance on my part. It works and works quite well for the Top 3%.But, how many of the top 3% received their hundreds of thousands because of the losses of the 90%.

Some people aren't cut out to operate a business of any kind.

Others can do quite well - if they find the right company, right products, have good timing, etc. But, most are pushed or pulled into MLM, when they aren't ready for it (if ever). Rushing in, without knowing what is required probably accounts for a large percentage of that 90% failure/loss rate.

The last time I heard, Las Vegas gambling paid better percentages. Of course, there are a large number of people who should never try that either.

I'll stay away from both.

Not meant as encouragement  Reply with quote

With a 90% failure/(lost money) rate, the numbers speak for themselves. Check the gov't sites, such as the FTC or the Better Business Bureau. The 90% failure rate has stood for over a decade.

A word to the wise is sufficient is the old saying. Unfortunately, too many newbies, both online and off, aren't learning from the mistakes of others. They have to learn for themselves.

Many will try 2, 3, 4 or more businesses before deciding they may not be cut out to run their own business. If I can help a small number of them save hundreds or thousands of dollars, then they will be better off.

I do encourage people that there are legitimate businesses to be found. But with all the scammers and high-probabbility of failure, it takes more "due diligence" and investigation to find one that is genuine, that can work for them.

Something that sells well face to face, may not sell well online. A person who lives in a remote area, with only few local prospects, may have to find a product or service based business that will work online for them to generate any real income.

So my encouragement is - "Proceed with the utomost caution" ' but when you find something that really interests you, that has a proven demand (within your chosen marketplace (online or off), follow your investigation with preparation and pursue it while the market is still open.

Some will lose out because they hesitate, looking for the perfect bizopp and the perfect timing. They may never find perfection, and so may miss out altogether.
